A band of cloth is wrapped around this uldiran’s eyes detailing symbols of the old one Pelor. Carries a heavy travelers pack that makes a chunking and clunking sound as he walks. He also wields a simple staff made of metal that he uses as a walking stick. His face is a ghostly pale tone and a light hood hides his shaven head, though he usually has his hood down. Beneath his hooded cloak he wears a set of old chainmail armor over what looks to be old and tattered clothing. He travels at a surprisingly steady rate considering his lack of sight and weighty gear.

Growing up

Raised in Aleph Valley as a simple peasant Elyas was content with his life, it was a safe place and an easy life thanks in no small part to the mystical pools of the valley that provided their seasonal harvest with rare and unique produce. He visited the nearby town of Entioch once a month along with his family to the temple of the Old Ones to pay tribute for their many blessings. Elyas had a simple life and never wanted for much, until the five years ago when the croaking demons and goblinoids came and took it all away.

Darkness & Dreamings in a strange land

He was captured along with many of the people of Aleph Valley and imprisoned in their caverns beneath the old ruined monastery on the path to Mount Urheim. He toiled endlessly with the others for years, expanding their dark and dank lair and watched helplessly as they fell one by one, succumbing to fatigue, illness, and disease. Those that could not get back up in time were carried away and never came back.

Most nights he did not dream at all, but on those nights he did dream it was always about the sunlight. He would dream of his old home and wake up wondering if his kin that were not imprisoned with him got away safely from the invaders. In his dreams he found himself farming in his mother’s garden the sun beating down relentlessly upon him, oddly enough we would speak to the sun, and the sun would speak back. When he woke up he couldn’t remember what they were talking about but he could remember seemingly random bits and pieces and he found that odd.

He lost track of how long he had been down there eventually, it was difficult to tell underground, instead he tracked the passage of time by how far they had dug deep into the world’s soil.

He had by his measurements been captive for well over a dozen miles now when they discovered a buried chamber. The leader of the croaking demons was a toad-like goblinoid named Melchior, he sent in a few captives first to investigate including Elyas. Best not to waste any of his forces to deadly traps and the like. They lowered the three into a dark room with but a torch and nothing else. Come back if you find anything muttered the toad-like goblinoid.

The Ancient Temple of the Old Ones

It was a shrine to a long lost god, another one of the old ones presumed one of his fellow captives. An altar stood at the center and upon it an ancient holy symbol. The text on the walls were of ancient earthborn script confirmed another of his fellow captives. It was odd thought Elias, he had a sense of familiarity, not as though he had been there before, but he could hear the ancient secrets of this room. Quickly he bid the other captives to follow him and raced towards the connecting hall of this chamber. He could hear a voice guiding him throughout the ancient temple, it warned Elyas of hidden traps, pointed out secret passageways, they ascended up stairways and passages sloped upwards, the voice eventually led them to a hidden chamber in the upper levels.

The room seemed to be a secret sacrificial chamber. The skeletal remains of what looked to be an ancient uldir priest wearing chainmail and clutching a simple staff made of metal lay upon an altar. Elyas could hear the voice bidding him to reach for the remains and upon contact the memories of the dead priest flooded into his mind. Everything became bright and warm his eyes began to burn, next thing he knew everything went dark.

He fell unconscious and when he woke up he could only remember bits and pieces of the new memories. It took him a few moments more to realize that he could not see around him, the torch must have gone out, but he could hear the flickering of the fire nearby. His companions were also not responding in the darkness and soon enough he figured out why, he found their bodies lifeless on the floor nearby, he could not see to confirm but he knew it was them. Another thing he realized after accidentally stepping on the torch is that it was aflame, but yet he could not see. Elyas knew that the bright light must have caused this, he was now alone in the dark and blind.

Recovering the Remnants of Lost Memories

Somehow, even without his sight he still had a good sense of his surroundings. The voice of course was still with him, though he had tuned it out for awhile since going unconscious and bid him to dawn the chainmail and pick up the staff. He did so and once again felt the same warmth as when he first made contact with the priests remains. The warmth reminded him of the sunlight and he felt an otherworldly power course through his body.

He then recognized the voice, it was his own and it spoke to him of memories of his past lifetimes. He remembered these ancient halls and how he had righteously served the old one Pelor. He remembered coming to the earthborn kingdom from his sky city to aid his allies and fellow priests against the tide of demons erupting forth from the abyss. He remembers the face of the woman he left behind, the woman he was destined to one day reunite with. He doesn’t remember much else except for being gravely wounded and retreating to this hidden sanctuary to die.

It takes a few days of sneaking around in the dark making sure to cover his tracks, but eventually Elyas escapes to the surface through the ancient hallways of the old ones temple. He emerges from the darkness in a forest and swiftly heads north. He is almost there he knows it. It takes him a few days to cover the small distance to the forests edge, he is careful to not make his presence known and to keep mindful of his surroundings. At long last he makes it onto the Aleph trade road, he can hear the flowing of the streams from the mystic pools, but he can also sense that something is awry.

Emerging in a New World

He explores begins to explore the valley when he realizes that he is being watched. He walks carefully, and it is quiet. Suddenly the sound of a pack of drakes fast approach, he can hear the shouting of voices barking commands. A battle ensues and he realizes quickly what is going on. These are soldiers on riding drakes from Entioch and they are protecting him from being captured by goblinoids. In the heat of battle Elyas realizes that though he can no longer see, his other senses feel as though they are enhanced and he can still perceive his surroundings. In the sunlight his body feels a surge of power and memories of his past life floods his mind. Instinctively he begins to unleash the old ones divine power upon the goblinoids and helps the soldiers to quickly dispose of their adversaries.

When the battle is over the soldiers bring him back to Entioch. There he spends the next few months as a priest in the temple of the old ones. He learns of the fate of Aleph valley and harbors a deep hatred for the croaking demons. He is awestruck at how much things have changed since he was last to this once town and now city of Entioch. He decides to one day save his kin and joins the adventuring company the warriors of light.
